Oktober, eröffnen wir in der Fachrichtung Mathematik das Semester mit einer Willkommensveranstaltung für Student:innen, Mitarbeiter:innen und Professor:innen und zwar 12:15 - 14 Uhr im HS 1 und Foyer im Hörsaalgebäude E2 5. Neben einer Begrüßung der neuen und alten Studierenden durch den Dekan wird es insbesondere ein geselliges Zusammensein mit Brezeln geben. Ich hoffe, dass möglichst viele von Ihnen dabei sein werden. "Mathematik im Beruf-Was machen nach dem Studium?"-Vortrag am 21.Juni

Liebe Studierende, wir laden euch herzlich zum nächsten Vortrag eines ehemaligen Absolventen in unserer Vortragsreihe "*Mathematik im Beruf-Was machen nach dem Studium?*" ein. Wann: *Freitag, 21.06.2024 um 17:00* Wo: *Hörsaal IV in E2.4* Als Gast wird uns *Sebastian Dick* von seinen Erfahrungen als *Software-Entwickler* erzählen. "/Mein Name ist Sebastian Dick (geb. Langendörfer) und ich habe an der Universität des Saarlandes Mathe studiert und später bei Prof. Eschmeier im Bereich der Funktionalanalysis promoviert. Heute arbeite ich als Software-Entwickler (bzw. Innovative Problem Solver) für ein reines Software-Unternehmen, das für Lebensversicherungen maßgeschneiderte SaaS (Software as a Service) entwickelt. Mathematik fasziniert mich schon sehr lange - Einerseits wegen der Abstraktion von auf den ersten Blick möglicherweise sehr verschiedenen Konzepten zu möglichst allgemeinen Strukturen. Andererseits, weil dem Verstehen von Mathematik stets in beliebigem Detail nachvollziehbare logische Schlussfolgerungen zu Grunde liegen. Während sich meine Jobbeschreibung als Software-Entwickler vermutlich erstmal recht trocken anhört, möchte ich in meinem Vortrag zeigen, welche Aspekte meine tägliche Arbeit mit meiner früheren Beschäftigung mit der Mathematik gemeinsam hat, und warum ich daher auch heute sehr viel Freude bei meiner Arbeit habe."/ / / Im Anschluss daran findet unser Spieleabend statt.
